Building Communities, Companies and Projects in Weekends

Startup Weekend LA

December 15, 2007 | by Andrew Hyde

The weekend kicked off at the Streetfire.net headquarters in Santa Monica with over 45 technologists in some amazing office space.

Special thanks to Glickman Capital for sponsoring the food for the weekend.  United Layer has again done a fantastic job with the production servers.  You can follow the LA Startup Weekend Blog to see the liveblogging of the event.

The group picked a facebook game named Frienemies which will be a skiable platform, part of a bigger game networks leveraging online group dynamics and quotes from “Mean Girls.” For the first Startup Weekend, the idea of really building something for Open Social was brought up. Again, the fans of Closed Private won out.

We are about to be visited by SMtvMusic.com friend Rob Giles, which everyone is excited to see. The weekend is about community, but groups like these remind me the energy and expertise of the group are also a big part of the experience.
