Startup Weekend RTP Recap

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Startup Weekend RTP took place this past weekend and was a total success with four great projects moving forward post-Startup Weekend.

DealCastr solves a unique problem; local businesses have things they want to get rid of QUICK. Like hockey tickets for tonight’s game.  How much would they sell for today just hours before the game? A retail store has to clear out inventory. NOW.  How low will they let the price go to move it out the door? The only way to find out about these special deals is with DealCastr. Choose the deals you want; DealCastr sends the deal to your mobile phone or email.

Scavenja is a photo-based scavenger hunt. Time limited games challenge players to complete thematically connected goals. Players post photographs to document completed goals and goals are awarded points based on difficulty level. Game play combines social interaction with competition and prizes are awarded to top players. Scavenja is a real world scavenger hunt that is delivered online.

My Fries Suck is a mobile application that allows consumers to provide instant feedback to restaurants about their customer experience at the point of experience. The data is aggregated and provided to the restaurants through a subscription-based model.

Bars For Us, at barsforus.com, has created an easy way for people to find bars using the criteria most important to them. Bar listings are displayed on a map and change dynamically as people refine their search. Bars For Us solves the problem of how people find the best bars for them and how bars can promote and advertise themselves, using a simple to use user-interface and a detailed database of information about bars.

Thank you to Jess Martin ( the local facilitator/organizer) and the rest of the team there for putting together a great event and stay tuned for future updates about these projects.

Current Status and RTP Reminder

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

Ann Arbor is in full swing and things are going great!  I’ll have a recap post up Monday or Tuesday and considering there were 34 pitches and now 13 groups, there will be lots to cover.

In other news, I just wanted to remind everyone that RTP Startup Weekend is next (July 11-13) and everyone interested should sign up and tell their friends!  Registration is here and their local blog is here.

RTP Startup Weekend

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

Research Triangle Park is strategically located in the state of North Carolina. It is at the center of the dynamic Research Triangle Region. RTP is the largest and longest continually operating research park in the United States, encompassing 7,000 acres. With more than 160 companies occupying 24.5 million square feet of developed space, RTP is globally renowned as a center of innovation. It boasts one of the largest concentrations of high-technology workers in the country.

It is for this reason that the Research Triangle Park Startup Weekend is sure to be one filled with innovative and forward thinking ideas from a group of people with way bigger brains then me.

Taking place July 11 - 13 this will be an amazing weekend at the low price of only $40. As always each attendee will get a fair share of scwag, learning, food, entertainment, networking, and fun for the low price.

Seeing how fast RTP moved up on the City Vote this is another city where we will most likely meet capacity rather quickly so you will want to get registered as soon as possible.
