The Goal Of Startup Weekend
Posted by Andrew Hyde
This is said quite a bit, but still is missed sometimes.
The #1 goal of Startup Weekend is to build community.
It always has, and always will be.
It is about connecting founders, testing out ideas, failing fast, learning new things, being part of a fast paced environment, seeing if startups are for you, humanizing the business process and having fun. Sometimes really cool projects come out of the weekend.
CNN just had a great article on Startup Weekend explaining this.
Thank you to the great community that has built around Startup Weekend. Keep checking back, we are about to release our vision for the next year of Startup Weekend, and it goes far beyond the weekend projects. Very exciting times ahead.
Are we coming to your town? Make sure to check out the City Vote project and vote for Startup Weekend to come to your city. Feel free to email me if you have any questions!

I think that's right and Atlanta 2 was proof of how successful SW and Barcamp have been in building the local community.
Learning was the best part of my experience at SW. I learned alot about startups: technology, legal and otherwise.

I agree that community is the number one goal. My personal experience has lessons in Collaboration coming in a close second.

Saw this on CNN, It seems 2007 was busy for you guys but 2008 events we're pretty flat…
With the current state of the economy, I hope to see more of these for 2009, especially around Los Angeles
