Funding Your Startup

Posted by Andrew Hyde

Funding is tough.  Very tough.  I wrote on my personal blog about a $5,000,000 a year grant being given out, funding many great startups a year like spot.us.

But I think this is a better venue to talk about it.

The grant?  The Knight News Challenge.

Before this project, I thought of all grants as inaccessible, with too many rules.  Not anymore. From their site:

There are three rules to follow to apply to the 2008-09 Knight News Challenge:

  1. Use or create digital, open-source technology as the code base.
  2. Serve the public interest.
  3. Benefit one or more specific geographic communities.

That is it!  Come up with an innovative project and apply!

It is due on November 1st, so hurry up!  I want to see a wide range of Startup Weekend Alumni with funded projects!

Heard about this at a local event, sounds like a great fund. I wish everyone the best of luck!
